| The Washington DC Salsa Dancing Competition took place
between May 18th and May 29th at Lucky Bar
and Ciao Baby. This competition was
organized by Wepa Productions and presided by Esteban Rockett. Despite
the usual "constructive criticism" This competition had a panel of judges
of which I was the worse judge because of my personality and inability to sit still and
look professional. Every other judge had credentials except me; I'm just a salsero
that grew up all my life listening and dancing salsa in the villages of Puerto Rico,
Germany, New York, and sometimes in Washington DC. The competition was well
organized with forms and everything. It was a very nice experience. The judges
for the Semi-Finals were: Marta Chiari - Tyrona (Colombia Folklore Group), Elba Garcia -
Lucky U (Planet Fred), Michelle Morris - DC Mambo, Latin Jazz Alley, Joy of Motion Dance
Studio, Leon Harris - Havana Village, and I. On the night of the finals the enthusiasm was even greater and I was calmer since the Bulls had lost to the Pacers. Even so I managed to spill my Corona and jumped on to the dance floor with Eileen Sanchez. Eileen Sanchez is hot! The judges for finals were: Marta Chiari - Tyrona (Columbia Forklore Group), Jim Byers - DC Mambo & Latin Jazz Ally Wendell Robinson - European Salsa Festival & DC Salsa Festival, Joyce -Strictly Salsa, Eileen Torres - The Club & DC Salsa Festival, and I.
A word from Esteban: Thanks for all your help and
participation. It was the effort by all that made this event successful.
Two Washingtonians making Salsa music CD's we need to support them...if not us then who? |
