A Little History
behind Diversité Bar & Grill
The building that houses Diversité Bar & Grill was constructed
in the 1920s by Harry Wardman, a well known real estate developer, architect, and
entrepreneur. The structure was built as an extension of a thriving business involving
automobiles which stretched from P to U Streets in the northwest quadrant of Washington,
DC. Later this building became known as the Wardman Motor Building.
The Wardman Motors Building used to be a showroom and dealership for luxury automobiles. Wardman Motors sold Lafeyette, La Salle, and Cadillac vehicle lines. The same exact floors that today host Italian wining & dinning, dancing and international artists, and private functions was once the center of luxury automobile commerce prior to the great depression. Diversité is a building that has been standing and preserved for nearly a century with intact structured features. Just by looking at the ceiling it is obvious to see that this building was built in a time when architecture really meant beauty; when attention to detail was a norm and not the exception. Washington, DC is a city of beautiful buildings that house some of the most influential people of the United States. That is at the heart of what Diversite is really about; good food and live artistic entertainment while preserving the beauty of what was left behind.
After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King a lot of the residents of the city of Washington, DC became disillusioned with the American Dream. This sudden orchestrated and conspired murder enraged people resulting in riots, revolts and loss of hope for minorities. The consequence of hate brought on the eventual ramifications of community neglect and business migration from the Washington, DC. People wanted to do good but hatred prevailed and this impacted negatively on the beauty of the buildings of the Capital of the United States of America. Hate and racism is not good, it destroys business opportunities and the good notion of capitalism.
After 25 years of neglect, the owners of Diversité did something positive and committed themselves to restore the spirit, character and beauty of the historic building. The owners of Diversté are working ardiently in trying to preserve the good spirit of this 20th Century Building in the same nature it was built; "to host always the best."
In doing so they retained the architects experienced in building restoration, to produce a professional beverage and dining facility that caterers to all the people of Washington, DC with the sole intent of providing the very best in fine dining and entertainment for the people of this Washington, DC.

Diversité's atmosphere is full of elegance, culture, colors,
sounds, lights, special effects and a Latin staff eager to ensure the clientele's comfort
and satisfaction.
But Diversité is more than a club. Diversité serves a full menu of international
delicacies including an array of Italian cuisine, and a complete list of top quality
wines. Our Italian dishes are the favorite of the Washington area tango dancers who gather
every Monday at Diversité.
Diversité has also a very strong loyal following of salsa, merengue and bachata dancers
because Diversité has, year after year, consistently brought some of the best tropical
music artists to the Washington Metropolitan area.
The fact is, Diversité is very proud to promote and support Latin culture. The clubs fun
atmosphere, professional staff, gourmet food, and especially its agenda of upcoming Latin
music events proves its commitment to the area Latin population and Latin lovers.
Diversité wants to ensure its vision to elevate the quality of its Latin nights by
requesting patrons to dress to impress.

"Studio" where theatrical plays are presented.
