Harlow's Summer 1999 going to China...Toma!
This summer I will be appearing in Japan and China in August and September with a new show band called larry Harlow's Thunder Drums..the concept is to bring 5five of the hottest Afro/Cuban drummers with the band and incorporate a local percussionist with typical drums of the country we are performing in...For example I have asked Willie Nagasaki, a wonderful percussionist from japan to tour with us, playing the Japanese Taiko drums, Japanese cymbals, Chimes and Gongs , as well as timbales together with Louis Bauzo, Bobby Sanabria, Pablo Rosario Cachete Maldonado and Chembo Corniel . There will be 22 congas, 14 Djembes, 14 Chereques, American trap drum kit, 9 Bata drums, pailas, timbales, bongos and assorted bells, maracas, claves and hand percussion.....This is a new thing for me and along with two fine trombonists who both double violin , 2 trumpets/wind synth.and Bass/Baritone saxes , Piano Bass and vocals....I have not abandoned ther Latin legends concept and I will continue with with that group as well .But....I feel it is time to bring something new, fresh and different to the Salsa stage...I am lookling foward to playing with all these great musicians. We will continue to open new areas of latin music to our public and keep experimenting with new concepts in Afro-Cuban music.
