Sofrito
A special treat that children seldom forget, musical stories from Latin American Countries and Communities
A Magical Storytelling
and Latin Music Show for the entire family.
Sofrito - A mixture of colorful musical spices by veteran Latin music legendary Salsa
musicians. The term Sofrito is the base for many Latin cuisine dishes. It is a mixture of
olive oil, cilantro, garlic, bay leaves and a lot of love. Sofrito is used as a cooking
metaphor for what takes place on the stage of mixing stories from Cuba, Colombia, Puerto
Rico, the Caribbean, and the Latin community of New York City as the basis for the show.
Sofrito is a tantalizing mix of storytelling and sizzling music sets the tone for all
ages; music that everyone can enjoy for a lifetime. In this original theater extravaganza,
the renowned performer David Gonzalez uses his brilliant comic spark and vibrant style to
captivate audiences with enchanting mystical tales from the Latino world. Grammy Award
winning Larry Harlow and his Latin Legends Band, featuring Adalberto Santiago and Yomo
Toro, adding their unique ingredients as spicy SOFRITO! of high-powered rhythms in what is
sure to be the greatest party to hit a stage.
Playing Salsa, mambo, big-band jazz, and more, Larry Harlow's Latin Legends Band
beautifully blend music with the funky, physical stories performed by David Gonzalez.
These stories range from a Caribbean fairy tale of a girl who befriends a magical goldfish
and becomes the Queen of Paradise; to the pre-Colombian tale of the birth of the Royal
Palm tree in the rain forest of Puerto Rico; to Cuban folklore of how one of God's
messengers trades his power of fortune telling for the power of playing the drum. Like the
distinctive rich flavor of the spicy Salsa for which it's named, Sofrito! is a joyful
celebration of Latino culture which emphasizes the idea of finding the right balance in
life.
David Gonzalez is an internationally known solo-theater performer, who has presented his
one-man shows in a variety of venues including: The Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln
