Training as a teacher or a competitor can be one of the most important things you do in your life.... If you are training to be a dancer/teacher, there are certain things to keep in mind... 1. BECOME THE BEST DANCER YOU CAN BE! and be persistent!....especially with your rehearsals...even if your tired or what not... make yourself GO... consistency and repetition is most important (Same for your students!) 2. Watch everything... be observant... watch videos, watch people dance in clubs, watch how other teachers teach, watch how students react to teaching comments... got the pic? awareness is a good thing. 3. Keep your partnership separate like a business. Try NOT (really, i mean it! NOT!) to sleep with your dance partner. When 2 people hook up and maybe even fall in love with each other (which can be really hard not to do) (BE STRONG) most dance partners end up fighting alot cause there business then becomes personal. Make a choice to either just dance or just be lovers. Dancing, performing, traveling and being together all the time forever may sound like a dream come true....but is usually not the case, if you mix business with personal it makes the road you travel to success much much harder! 4. Invest in your dancing... the more you learn and know the farther you will go. Information is power and can take you far! 5. Last but not least...there are ways to make a successful rehearsal... start by dancing cold your routine, then you'll know what’s to be worked on, then go through each step that needs work and do it 20 times...make sure you dance full out in rehearsal always... and finish rehearsal always with a smile! NO MATTER WHAT! Here's some more info to check out.... Here is a nice letter someone wrote me ... Thanks For Your Teacher Dancing Expertise And another letter on how to get started in teaching (lots of good info in this one!) Starting to Teach, What to do...
