The
Second Annual Premio Globo awards took place on November 16, 2000 at the
Manhattan Center in New York City to present awards in the different genres of
Latin music. According to the President of the Globo Awards, Felix Jerez, this
ceremony was going to be very different from other award ceremonies where many
of the categories are grouped together (such as Salsa and Merengue grouped under
the category of Tropical Music) and are not valued separately for their artistic
quality.
Also
performing that night were the Barrio Boyzz singing their new single from their
new CD, "Destiny". Son by
Four won for Song of the year, "A
Puro Dolor" which they performed that evening. They also won the awards
for Pop/Balada Revelacion del Año, and Best Salsa Album. A number of artists
who were nominated and won awards were not present to receive their awards. For
example, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Victor Manuelle were not on hand. Instead, many
of the record companies sent representatives in their artists' place.
