Miguel's Story

Edie,
Allow me to share my first salsa experience with you. :)
{this may take a while}

Well it was as far back as '88, when my mom tried to teach me the old Latin step ( left, right, front, back) I caught on
to it..but I never was interested. My dad was a DJ in his younger years so in my home you can hear Some house music,
freestyle, old school, and Latin music. As a result, I began to like different types of music at a very young age. In '93, I
had a birthday party. Nothin big.. just me and about 13 other friends just having fun. We were dancin to house and
reggae and then they put merengue...Not knowing how to dance it.. I just stood in a corner and watched this couple
dance... It wasn't too long till I got the gist of it and began to dance a bit. later that evenin I asked my mom to teach me.
She said she couldn't teach me much cause she was a follower and I should be the leader. so she referred me to my aunt,
who was both a follower and a leader. so she began teachin me the basics of " the hustle". She'd teach me some of the
moves, she's swing me around, drag me and turn me so much. that I began to like it. she left the hustle and began to
teach me merengue for about 2 days, until she put on a salsa( unfortunately, at that I time I couldn't even tell the
difference..pathetic huh) and at that time I was hooked. I liked the difference between salsa and merengue( I think salsa
is more fancy and pretty) and just paid attention to the salsa and the hustle more. it wasn't shortly after that we'd have
weekend practices and parties here and there. it was great. But not to give all the credit to her.. I went out on my own
and danced with friends so that I learn to dance with other people. :)

So its been 4 years since my first step. And let me tell you, it wont be until another 40 years that I'll stop steppin.

Well that's my story

Miguel
