Mike's Story

Buenas Tardes Edie,

Salsa, let me tell you my involvement and how it all started.

It was a cold windswept night, Feb 1996. My job had taken me to Brighton to run a Bar near the seafront. I had, at the time been told that they did Salsa at this venue but the sooner I could get rid of it the better as it was rubbish !!

My first week started with me sacking all the staff and having to work behind the bar myself. Everyone I met wanted water, "how was I going to make any money". The next week I once again found myself behind the bar, this time offering people free Tequilla or cheap cocktails.

People started having more fun, asking me to dance (which I couldn't) and basicly having a good time. It was time I started to learn this for myself, so I check up to find out who is the best teacher in the UK only to find that he was already teaching at my bar (Elder Sanchez)

So lessons begin and I just can't get it! what's wrong. I'm not listening to the music I'm told. OK listen to the music, try the steps, OH I get it now, you have to dance in time with the beat, why didn't you say ?

It's now 11 Months later, I do Salsa 4 nights a week, teach every now and again, have some of the best looking partners and even won my first competition, a ticket for two to Amsterdam, what more could you ask for ?!! I don't know
whether you noticed but even my e-mail address has Salsa conotations !!
