Sharonda's Story...

About two years ago, I met my now ex-boyfriend. He was a trumpet player and was involved in the Salsa band that was at the university I had attended. He introduced me to Salsa and the rhythms of the Rumba, Danzon, Son, and many others. I became very involved with the rythums and style of Salsa "dancing", so to speak, the intensity, grace, and elegance of the ladies, and the gentlemen being handsome and debonair- it was very new to me. So I beagn to go out with him to the clubs.

I marveled at the techinques. I wanted to experience it first hand. So I began to study them intensely each time I went out. And I got it. I was so happy. But I still need some work because I have a really hard time allowing myself to be lead by another person..But I love it. I think it is the most intense and passionate form of dance, reminding me of the Barque dances done in the late 1500's- social yet dating back to some sort of religious or unifiying cultural experience. The bonding between a couple is beyond words! It is raw passion and fire that cannot be found anywhere else. Salsa contains the raw history of our ancestors, which is pretty neat! So I continue to perfect my skills as a Salsera, paying tribute to this living breathing dance form...
