Someone's Story...

I had been hearing about my friends from grad school going
salsa dancing for months. They weren't hard core, they went
about once a week. So I decided to finally join them and see
what Latin music was all about. We went to the big club, Plaza
Flamingo in Toronto, Canada. My first sight was energizing and
electric. Men spinning women to loud and lively music. I was mesmerized.
Before I got the chance to sit down a Latin American guy asked
me to dance (merengue) and from what I remember as a
pre-beginner, he was amazing. I was being spun and spun and I
was hooked immediately.
The next day I bought a Latin music CD. I was drawn to a
certain rhythm but didn't really know what it was. I now realize
that I was only taking a liking to the salsa songs! I decided to
take lessons and for the first time, I actually looked forward to
going to dance classes unlike I had ever looked forward to
anything before. I lacked the good salsa friends so I was a bit
limited. Luckily I met a girl in my class who is now one of my
best friends. After our classes ended, we went salsa dancing
every single day for 6 months and then went to South America
to be immersed in the Latin culture. I turned down several cute
guys BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T DANCE SALSA!!!!! (I kick myself
now as my salsa life has matured)
I had to move across the country to a city with a bad salsa scene
and this has been the bane of my existence since my salsa life
began. I still love salsa and always will !!! I get my fill only once
a week but I listen to salsa everyday and practice everyday by
myself!!!
