Edie, The Salsa FREAK
Editor-In-Chief, Salsaweb Magazine |
With a readership of over
80,000 per month, Salsaweb.com, Inc, has quickly become one
of the fastest growing sites on the Internet. It is a phenomenon that nobody expected.
This single online magazine has brought the entire world of Latin Entertainment, music,
and dance together as one, from Paris, to Tokyo, to New York. Salseros from across the
globe log in on a daily basis to check for the latest in Club, Music, Dance Instruction,
Humor, News, and Events. Salsaweb has become the mecca for the most up-to-date and
accurate information on Latin Music and Entertainment.
Salsaweb Magazine (http://www.salsaweb.com)
started in April of 1997 by Benjamin Rapoport
and Edie, The Salsa FREAK. They had known each
other from dancing at various Salsa clubs throughout Los Angeles. Benjamin had operated a
smaller website called http://www.rapo.com which
listed local Los Angeles Salsa clubs, instructors, and events. At the same time, Edie had
created a personal website that discussed diet, self-improvement, and fitness. She also
wrote about the health benefits of Salsa dancing, and how it had changed her life. When
Ben decided to expand his site beyond just the Los Angeles boundaries, he came up with the
name "Salsaweb". At around the same time, Edie started writing helpful hints and personal stories about dancing and Salsa competitions. What sparked
Bens attention was her now world-famous Salsa-Holics Anonymous chart. Her
Salsa humor, stories, and helpful hints motivated Ben to ask her to join forces with him
to create what has quickly become the largest Latin Entertainment Website in
the world.

Salsaweb's strength lies in many areas, its features, dancer
information, humor, and most importantly, in their unselfish attitude about listing clubs, instructors, events, and
links from every nation. Salsaweb not only lists all the world's Salsa clubs, but links to
other Salsa sites as well - for free. Why? They quickly realized they could not
possibly list all Salsa clubs in every country on their own. No Internet site is an
island. They share other wonderful sites by advertising their links directly on their cityguides and world
Hot-Links section. They share in the wealth of regional information that's much more
accurate based on the proximity of the authors of each city and country in the
world.
As you know, strength in numbers is very, very powerful.
Salsaweb is now a central hub for Salsa/Mambo enthusiasts all over the globe. For example,
the first World Salsa Congress held in Puerto Rico every year is brought together by
readers of the Internet. Advertising via Salsaweb is a primary factor in the phenomenal
success of that event. More world events are now taking place because people still keep in
touch via the main Salsaweb hub.
The impact Salsaweb has had on the entire Salsa community
is unprecedented. Readers of Salsaweb are now being exposed to many different styles of
Salsa dancing from the island of Curaçao to New York, to Italy. People traveling to
different cities depend on Salsaweb for accurate club and instructor information in every
part of the globe. Salsaweb is known for its up-to-the-minute accuracy because of the
dozens of dedicated volunteers who provide their staff with information via email within
seconds.
The "international" impact Salsaweb is causing
throughout the world is explosive - much bigger than we had realized. Salsaweb Magazine's
own Edie, the Salsa FREAK has personally traveled to ten different countries throughout
Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and in major cities all over the United States
primarily to promote the growth of Latin Entertainment via the Salsaweb hub. Future
promotions in their planning stages include Russia, Seoul Korea, Africa, South America,
the Far East, and Australia.
Salsaweb has appeared in major newspapers like the
Los
Angeles Times and New York Times. Theyve been announced on radio stations and are used as
an advertising mechanism by major promoters. They have been contacted by such prestigious
magazines as The Source, Curio,
Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, Success,
and Forbes. Salsaweb Magazine has also featured on nationally aired television shows like "Galavision's
Salsa Desde Hollywood, an HBO Partnering Special,
The Wild Wild Web", and "Vibe" with
Host Sinbad. Their success is evident from the rave of compliments
through personal emails they receive
on a continuous basis from readers all over the world. Readers love their unique and
informative content. They get complimented CONSTANTLY on the "quality of the written
material - the words spoken". Their guestbook
contains hundreds of testiminials from readers who are impressed with the format,
features, and interviews with famous artists, dancers, and instructors.
This is the dawn of a technological new age, and Salsaweb
is in the forefront. Their plan is to continue to be the premier central information hub
for events, clubs, instructors and any type of information regarding Salsa / Mambo music
and dancing throughout the world. They have proven that total committment, a good Advisory
Board, hard work, determination and a will to succeed is key to their success.
In a memo she wrote to the
Salsaweb staff, Edie said,
"Dear staff,
Excellent relationships, VERY CLEAR communication, and a combination of brilliant minds
work miracles at lightening speed... which is Salsaweb's foundation and strength.
Weve come to realize that the ONLY way to
succeed on the net is to share, edify, and show off each other's sites and hard work ....
whoever has the most [and accurate] information wins... whoever helps others out the most
wins... whoever is the nicest, and most sincere, wins... RELATIONSHIPS are more important
than schedules, timing, and even information...
...Information is power, but
relationships are life itself."
