You would think that most of us had been to the Hollywood sign before.
Not the case. Most of us have only seen it from a distance, and not even
bothered to take a closer look. It
was funny to see the excitement on people’s faces when they saw it up close.
When you live in LA, you always think that “someday” you’ll go see
it, but really never get around to it. Tourists
are usually the only people that actually make the trek up there!
The crew got a beautiful opening shot of Luis buffing his dance shoes with a
gorgeous shot of the Hollywood sign in the background.
Then, at Mullholland Drives’ Los Angeles lookout point, all of us
performed in our yellow costumes with the Hollywood sign behind us in the
distance. The camera crew shot all
of us in formation, dancing freestyle to a song named “Bin Bin” by the new
Salsa group, Bio Ritmo. The camera
crew took a pan shot of Alfredo and his partner doing multiple spins.
They had her “spins” shot transition perfectly to….
“We’re going to see Tito Puente’s Star on Hollywood’s
Walk of Fame!!!????” Sandy
asked with excitement. “Cool!”
There we were, dancing Salsa along the World Famous Hollywood Boulevard,
and right in front of us was (appropriately) Tito Puente’s star embedded in
the sidewalk. There, the team
danced portions of our routine dressed in our sexy dark glitter outfits in front
of Mann’s Chinese theatre.
Even though it was broad daylight, our costumes seemed to light up the entire
boulevard. (The girl’s sexy
outfits were creating a small scene for the male portion of the crowd).
An ensemble of one hundred or so curious onlookers and tourists watched
as we did a mini-performance for the cameras.
“OK everyone! Quiet on the
set!” Rudy shouted to the crowd,
“Listen up people… this is going to be a 40 second shot, so please, hold
your applause until after I yell ‘CUT’”.
With astonishing obedience, the crowd did just that. “Lights, camera, ACTION!!”
after our performance on the Boulevard, the crowd screamed,
“Encore, encore! You guys are great!” Our
performance seemed very appropriate amidst the stone-cement handprints of
world-famous actors, actresses and Hollywood movie stars, singers, and producers
of the past century.
The camera crew then shot Luis and Joby in their famous neck-drop move, with
Joby’s body going down on Hollywood Boulevard, and then transitioning up in
the middle of …
“OK guys, on to Beverly Hills!” Rudy
shouted as we sped off in our cars to world-famous Rodeo
Drive. We could tell we were getting close when the majority of cars
around us started becoming Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsches, and Rolls Royce.
